5 Bike Parts To Check Before Your Every Ride

Riding a bike can be an unchaining experience. For some of you, bike riding can be a way to clear your head and make sense of things. However, the sheer experience can take an ugly turn if you do not prepare well. It can turn into a nightmare and leave you stressed more than before. Here are 5 bike parts that you should check every time you go out for a ride. Such simple precaution can save you a lot of time, energy and money. Most importantly, it can save you a lot of heartburn.

Wheels – The First Of The Bike Parts

Spin the wheels to see if they rub against the brake pad, the frame or anywhere else. Wheels are the most important aspect for a smooth riding experience. Check for smooth circulations. If the wheel stops abruptly after a few rounds, you have a problem. You will need to adjust the hubs to fix it. Make sure it does not make any grinding noises as well. If the wheels are bent, or damaged, you should fix that before anything else.

Examine The Tires

Check the air pressure in each of the tires. Notably, proper pressure is the second most critical part of the excellent riding experience. You will spend more effort if the tires are not at the right pressure. 110 – 120 psi is ideal for most roads. Also check if there are any cuts, bulges or swellings on the sidewalls of the tire. They can lead to sudden bursts and flats and you do not want in the middle of your ride.

Test The Brakes

Spin the wheels and test the rear and front brakes independently. The brakes should ideally engage before the lever touches the handlebar. Ensure that there is enough stopping power. Then check for damaged brake cables as well. The brake pads are the next most important thing. Make sure there is enough rubber and they meet the rim in a balanced manner on both sides of the rim.

Lube The Chain

The chain is the next more critical component. Make sure it is tight, has enough lube in it for a smooth ride and gear change. There are many varieties of lubes in the market that are designed for specific purposes. Choose your lube wise and make sure it is applied to the entire chain in a complete and even manner. You should always apply the lube to the inside of the chain so that it spreads into the chain parts as you ride.

Gear Shift – The Most Critical Of The Bike Parts

Last, check the rear gear shift. Make sure it shifts evenly and in a smooth manner. Additionally, check and make sure that the chain does not fall off the front chainring while changing gears.

It takes just about the same time that you enjoy sipping your coffee after riding to check your bike before you take it out for a ride. You may not be a pro-rider but you can give your bike the same treatment that a professional bike gets. With proper maintenance, your bike will last as long as you take care of it.
